TAKE ME AWAY: Guess Jeans S/S'13 Campaign

How are we supposed to get into the Winter spirit with photos like this coming across our desk?! GUESS Magazine took their Spring/Summer '13 photoshoot to Bora Bora this year and these photos have us dreaming of summer time. Starworks Artists hairstylist John Ruggiero was on set to create the effortless hair. He had this to say about model, Gigi Hadid's (top left), lived-in look:
It's about 90% Gigi and 10% me. I had her get her hair wet in the salt water, I put it up in a bun and then let the air and the salt water do their thing. I finished it off with a hairspray at the roots to give it a lift. With this hairstyle, less is more because it's super easy.
Another easy way to get this look is if you come to Tahiti, go swimming and have gorgeous hair…that really helps too.

Jessica Paré of Mad Men. Makeup by Mai Quynh for Starworks Artists.

I wanted Jessica to look graceful, but modern. Jessica's natural beauty shines through while keeping the focal point on her eyes. My inspiration came from the forest green chiffon dress. It's classic couture with bad girl edge speaks to the regal essence of the overall look.
SKINCARE: Her skin was given a good dose of hydration with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Serum followed by CHANEL Sublimage Essential Regenerating Fluid and CHANEL Sublimage La Crème Yeux.
FOUNDATION: I used a combination of CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF15 on the high planes of the face and added a littleCHANEL Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Sunscreen Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 through the center of the face to give a silky complexion.
BLUSH: On the apples of her cheeks, I lightly dusted CHANEL Powder Blush in Star Dust. I then added CHANEL Poudre Signée De Chanel Illuminating Powder above the cheekbones and a tiny amount on the bridge of the nose to add dimension and illumination.
EYE SHADOW: The eyes were the big focus of this look! Using CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes, I added depth to Jessica's eye shape by using the bronze shade on her entire lid and blended it very softly upwards and outwards. On the inner lid, I mixed the light beige and soft pink shade and applied it as a highlighter to the inner eye. Then, I smudged the dark chocolate shade along her top and bottom lash line, blending this color into the bronze shadow. I rimmed her eyes with CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso.
LASHES: I curled the lashes and added two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara Waterproof in Noir to her top and bottom lashes. I added individual lashes to finish the look.
LIPS: I mixed CHANEL Rouge Coco in Chalys and Rouge Allure in Gracile to customize the perfect shade to go with her eyes.

Jennifer Lawrence of Silver Lining's Playbook. Hair by Mark Townsend for Starworks Artists.

I was inspired by Old Hollywood glamour, so I wanted Jennifer's hair to show that influence and inspiration, but I wanted it to be young and very modern as well.
HAIR CARE: I started by applying a nickel size amount of the new Dove Color Care Leave On Conditioner into Jennifer's damp hair; she's colored her hair so much lately so her hair needs added moisture and protection.
WAVES: I loaded her hair with the Dove Style+Care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse and blow dried with a large round brush. To give her hair a loose wave, I wrapped sections of hair varying from 2 to 5 inches around a 1 1/4 inch curling iron, leaving the ends out.
SHINE: Then, I took a small amount of Dove Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum in my hands, rubbed my hands together and then raked my fingers through the waves to break them up and give the hair amazing shine.
TEXTURE: I then took the hair from the right side, twisted it and then pinned it in the back with a few bobby pins. To give the hair a cool, lived-in texture I sprayed Oribe Dry Texture Spray from mid-length to ends and scrunched with my hands.
HOLD: As always, I finished by spraying Dove Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray liberally all over to keep her hair in place all night and give the hair even more shine."

Michelle Dockery of Downton Abbey. Hair by Mara Roszak for Starworks Artists.

For me, the process always starts with the dress. With Michelle, her stylist [Micaela Erlanger] saw the vintage Ralph Rucci dress about a week before the awards. The dress is from the '90s, Micaela said; it’s kind of a recent vintage piece. I would say it's that kind of cool, '90s vibe.
Michelle already had this new bob haircut that’s kind of '90s—ugh, I think that '90s bob is so awesome! So, I pulled images of other chops of a similar shape [photo 5], and pictures of Winona, other models and actresses from that era, and brought those to discuss with her, and then we, as a group, came up with a slightly sleeker, more structure feel.
CLEAN PART: The first thing I did was part her hair. I wanted the part to be really, really clean—super straight—because the dress has really straight lines. It’s always good to part the hair when it’s wet because when you try to do it after it's dry, it doesn’t stay. I blew it dry off her face, on the side that we knew we were going to tuck back behind her ear.
SOFT CURLED BOB: I pin-curled the hair to give it some volume and texture and movement, let that set for a couple of minutes, sprayed it lightly with Moroccan Oil Hairspray, which is a light-hold hairspray. Then I went back in and used a couple of T3 Hot Rollers, which are really awesome, and replaced the pin curls with those. Then, I let it all out and added a few bobby pins to make sure the hair would stay tucked under on one side.
SLICKED BACK SIDE: I added a little bit of texture with more hairspray—I just spray it on the palm of my hand and scrunch the hair—and used the tiniest bit of gel on my finger, just running it over the top layer of hair to smooth down any flyaways. Michelle has amazing hair; it really does what you want it to do, so I'm lucky in that department.

TUTORIAL: Mara Roszak's Double Crossing Braids
January 22, 2013 03:16 PMThe braid trend is showing no signs of unraveling. Whether it's prepping for the red carpet or primping for the runway, hairstylists aren't just embracing linked locks; they're taking them to new heights! In the video above, Starworks Artists hairstylist Mara Roszak combines a french braid, fishtail braid and hair chalk to create a 'do that's part California girl, part punk rocker and all over cool. Foam Magazine hit up the celeb coifer because of her fearless braid work with stars like Emma Stone and Zoe Saldana. Roszak had this to say about the hair world's latest obsession:
"People really love braids on themselves, so I use them a lot. They add texture; I like to add one in as you would a hair accessory."
