STEP AND REPEAT: The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards
September 23, 2013 11:45 AMOur favorite television stars stepped out on Sunday for the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The red carpet was a hotbed of modern style and glamour. Rose Byrne was an obvious show-stopper in a custom Calvin Klein cropped outfit and rose tinted lip. Michelle Dockery also gets major style points for her sleek bob and ultra chic Prada gown. Starworks Artists had a hand in many of the night's most stunning looks. Check below for our full styling credits.
Kerry Washington
Hair - Marcus Francis / Starworks Artists.
GET THE LOOK:
INSPIRATION: It is a big day for Kerry being a nominee for Best Actress in a Drama Series, and we both wanted to make this look a memorable one. Her Marchesa dress has a soft elegance to it that subtly commands one to double take. Kerry and I agreed that we wanted the overall look to be ‘classic simplicity’ with bouncy, shiny waves.
STEP ONE: We first started with Leonor Greyl Masque Quintessence and left it on for 15 minutes to help promote shine as a part of the foundation. Then we cleansed the scalp and hair with Shampooing Reviviscence.
STEP TWO: On towel-dried hair, I sprayed Leonor Greyl Condition Naturelle from roots to ends. This helped to protect her hair from heat while giving volume throughout. Then, I combed through to help distribute and applied a large amount of Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice to the ends for added bounce and lasting texture. I blow-dried with a medium size round brush working around an off center part. Then, I set a large velcro roller at the crown to give that natural lift and height.
STEP THREE: Taking 2 inch sections of Kerry’s hair, I lightly sprayed Leonor Greyl Voluforme on each piece before wrapping it around 1 1/4" curling iron from roots to ends. I pinned each section vertically throughout to promote lasting volume at the ends. Then, I wrapped the hair away from the face on each side, and alternated directions in the back. For the face framing layers, I just took the curling iron and wrapped around once to create a bend at the eyes and let set without pinning.
STEP FOUR: After 10 minutes, I unpinned all the sections and brushed out her hair (with a paddle brush like by Mason Pearson) to soften the curls into more of a natural wave shape. I undid the velcro roller at the top and gently teased for a little extra height (you can tease for more height as desired). Then, I used a quarter size of Leonor Greyl Éclat Naturel styling cream to seal the ends and smooth out any unwanted frizz. Once we had the look of easy, effortless wave and body, I gave a final spritz of Spray Structure Naturelle for all night touchable hold.”
Rose Byrne

Styling - Penny Lovell / Starworks Artists.
TOP & SKIRT - Custom Calvin Klein
SHOES - Charlotte Olympia
CLUTCH - Jimmy Choo
JEWELRY - Tiffany & Co
GET THE LOOK (MAKEUP):
INSPIRATION: Rose wore a custom gown that was the most amazing blush shade, so I wanted to make sure that she didn’t “disappear” with a look that was too natural.
STEP ONE: I prepped Rose’s skin by misting her with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Essence Mist and then following quickly with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Gel Yeux. Next, I used a small amount of CHANEL Le Lift Creme Fine to give a beautiful, velvety, firm texture to her complexion.
STEP TWO: Rose is blessed with beautiful, even-toned skin, so I just used CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 No. 30 to diffuse the light and give a velvet matte finish. I applied it with a large brush then used a damp beauty blender sponge to melt it into the skin for perfect coverage.
STEP THREE: I decided on a late 70’s Helmut Newton-esque look. I started by defining the socket with the darkest color in the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Eclosion. I then blended the peach above the socket to melt the socket away. The lash line was defined by wetting the matte brown shadow and blending out. I finished the eye by adding a coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, then feathered in a few extra lashes from both strip and individual Ardell.
STEP FOUR: I used Le Blush Creme de Chanel in Presage to add an apricot hue to Rose’s apples; it’s a great neutral and pairs very well with a warm brown eye shadow.
STEP FIVE: The lip was a beautiful deep rose with a violety hue: CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colour in Byzantin. The lip balanced out the eye and completed the look.
Michelle Dockery
Hair - Mara Roszak / Starworks Artists.
Styling - Micaela Erlanger / Starworks Artists
DRESS/CLUTCH - Custom Prada
JEWELRY - Fred Leighton
GET THE LOOK:
INSPIRATION: Michelle wore a custom made Prada Gown for the 2013 Emmy awards. This dress is the epitome of modern glamour. Its clean lines and jewel tones create a timeless and elegant statement. Inspired by Michelle's Prada gown, I wanted the hair to have a classic clean feel. The hair trends to come are effortless, yet polished styles - beautiful blowouts that are soft, touchable and have an element of natural ease.
STEP 1: Creating a beautiful, touchable blow out begins with a great moisturizing conditioner. I recommend my clients use L'Oréal Paris Advanced Hair Care Power Moisture Rush Mask before any event.
STEP 2: I prepped Michele's damp hair with L'Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Xtreme Straight Cream all over. This lightweight cream helps smooth the hair while blowing it out, without weighing the hair down.
STEP 3: Then I added a dab of L'Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Frizz Taming Serum to the ends of the hair. Because the ends tend to be the driest, I always like to add a serum to help seal the ends for a healthy, shiny look.
STEP 4: I then parted her hair deep to one side, and blew it dry with a small round brush, keeping volume and movement. The trick to maintaining volume is by starting at the top of the head, and working your way down.
STEP 5: Once Michelle's hair was dry, I applied a dab of L'Oréal Paris EverStyle Texture Series Tousle Cream to palms of my hands and then gently ran my fingers through her hair. This cream was used to tame any frizz, while adding a bit of definition to her hair.
STEP 6: After that, I tucked her hair behind the ears for a more modern effect, maintaining a soft shape with the hair across her forehead. For added shine, since shine is key on the red carpet, I used L'Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Dry Oil as a finishing mist. Since I like just a mist of shine, I spray from a 1/2 arm's length away from the hair and allow the product to fall onto the hair.
STEP 7: The final step for any look is Hairspray to ensure this style lasts all though the night... and then some, I used L'Oreal Paris Elnett Extra Strong Hold Unscented Hairspray all over the hair. This spray leaves the hair with that soft touchable hold key for this style.
Anna Gunn
Hair - Aviva Perea / Starworks Artists.
GET THE LOOK:
"I coated Anna's hair with Phytovolume Volumizing Spray and blew out her hair using a spornette mixed bristle brush. Then I wrapped 1" sections around a 1 1/2" curling iron. I then coated her hair with Oribe Dry Texture Spray and shook out the waves. We wanted a big loose chignon so that we would see her hair on both sides no matter which side she was photographed from. I pinned parts of her hair loosely until the back was created and then framed her face with super soft curls. I finished the look with a heavy dose of Elnett!"
Emily Deschanel
Hair - Laini Reeves / Starworks Artists.
Makeup - Stephen Sollitto / Starworks Artists.
Styling - Penny Lovell / Starworks Artists.
DRESS - Custom Houghton
SHOES - Aldo
CLUTCH - Ashlyn'd
JEWELRY - Tiffany & Co.
Jessica Pare
Hair - Marcus Francis / Starworks Artists
Makeup - Mai Quynh/ Starworks Artists
GET THE LOOK (HAIR):
INSPIRATION: Jessica Pare's Oscar de la Renta gown at this year's Emmy Awards made a statement both with its color and beautiful silohuette. The hair needed to be less coiffed and to keep this look modern and young. Looking at the recent fashion shows I was inspired from Dolce & Gabbana and Alberta Ferrerti which had the hair feeling sexy and whimsical. Pinning Jessica's hair up full of texture and flyaways kept the look feeling natural and effortless.
STEP ONE: On damp hair spray Phyto Volume Actif to the roots while applying Leonor Greyl Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice the the mid shaft and ends. Comb through the hair, then add a quarter size amount of Living Proof Style Extender throughout the hair.
STEP TWO: Blow dry the hair with a medium size vented round brush, and begin to style around a center part.
STEP THREE: Using a 3/4" iron curl away from the face on either side, and randomly in the back. Spray L'Oreal Elnet and let the hair set for 5 minutes.
STEP FOUR: Brush out the entire head using a paddle brush like by Mason Pearson for a more soft, fluffy wave.
STEP FIVE: Keeping it loose around the face and emphasizing tousled height on top, pull the hair back in sections and twist and pin as you go. Aim for the crown when securing to keep this look feeling young, really allowing for flyaways.
STEP SIX: Spray Oribe Superfine Hairspray to freeze into place the loose structured undo."

Allison Williams
Hair - Mark Townsend / Starworks Artists
GET THE LOOK:
INSPIRATION: Working with Allison Williams for the Emmys was a dream come true! Once I saw her beautiful Ralph Lauren gown and talked with Allison, we decided to keep her hair down and go for a classic all-American beauty look.
STEP ONE: I started by applying a large dollop of the Dove Style+Care Nourishing Curls Whipped Cream Mousse to her damp hair and blow-dried with a medium round brush to get lots of volume and keep her hair smooth.
STEP TWO: I took 3 to 4 inch sections of hair and curled them with a 1 inch curling iron away from the face. To break up the curls, I scrunched the hair while spraying Oribe Après Beach spray all over.
STEP THREE: For a little piecey-ness on the ends, I sprayed Sally Hershberger Glam Waves on my hands and then raked my fingers through the ends.
STEP FOUR: Just before Allison left for the red carpet, I sprayed Dove Style+Care Extra Hold Hairspray all over to keep the hair full and shiny without looking stiff.
Anna Chlumsky

Julianna Margulies
Hair - Adir Abergel / Starworks Artists
Aubrey Plaza
Hair - Adir Abergel/ Starworks Artists
Makeup - Mai Quynh / Starworks Artists
GET THE LOOK (MAKEUP):
I started with Lancome Bienfait Aqua Vital Lotion and applied it all over her face. Next, I primed her face using Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15. Then, I applied Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation in Golden Beige, using a Beauty Blender sponge. For her cheeks, I first layered Stila Convertible Color in Lillium. Then I set her face using NARS Pressed Powder in Desert using a powder brush. Finally, I brushed on NARS Blush in Deep Throat to the apples of her cheeks.
For her eyes, I started by applying Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette. I mixed Tease and Suspect to her lower eyelid, from the lash line to the crease. Next, I applied Busted above her crease, to create a 60's silhouette. I blended all the shadows together to soften the look. I smudged Tease and Suspect to her top and bottom lash line using a smudge brush. I applied two coats of Dior Diorshow Black Out Mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
For her lips, I applied Laura Mercier Creme Lip Colour Lipstick in Sparkling Pink.
Ariel Winter
Hair - Aviva Perea / Starworks Artists
GET THE LOOK:
"I prepped her hair using Oribe Surfcomber Mousse and Phytovolume Volumizing Spray then rough dried her hair with fingers. Then I wrapped two inch sections around a one inch curling iron and then loosely crisscrossed piece into a low chignon down the side of her neck. I finished the look with Alterna's Bamboo AntiHumidity hair spray which keeps frizz away and has super strong hold."
