Nothing fascinates me quite like the way movies depict the future. I always find myself awaiting the creative gadgets predicted in the films: the Hoverboard from Back To The Future Part II (1989) , the self-driving cars from Total Recall (1990), the touch interface from Minority Report (2002). And though I have little use for makeup, I found myself in awe the first time I watched The Fifth Element (1997) and saw Leeloo give herself a makeover simply by pressing a Chanel cartridge to her face. Genius!

Grace Choi's invention, Mink, reminds me of that scene from The Fifth Element. Mink is a new 3-D printer that allows the user to create his or her own shade of cosmetics in the privacy of their own home. Simply find a color you like on the internet, print it like you would a picture and voila!--instant makeup at a fraction of the cost and time. Is this the first step in the future of makeup? Watch the video below and see for yourself.
